Beyond Borders: The Magnetic Appeal of Pakistani Dramas in India

Popular Pakistani drama series capturing the hearts of Indian audiences

Pakistani dramas becoming popular in India and despite the ongoing rivalry between the two countries, there can be a few reasons behind this:

Cultural similarities

Both Pakistan and India share similar cultural roots. And as a result, the stories, themes, and characters in Pakistani dramas resonate with Indian audiences. Most stories in Pakistani dramas revolve around family, relationships, and social issues that are relevant to Indian viewers as well.

Quality of production

High-quality production values, with well-written scripts, skilled actors, and impressive cinematography are appreciated. This has helped to attract a loyal following in India, as viewers appreciate the attention to detail and the overall cinematic experience.

Original Sound Track (OST)

Most Pakistani dramas are now coming up with their original sound Tracks. The OSTs made the audience curious even before the actual drama. These OSTs have unique sounds and beats and revolve around the concept of the stories of the drama. These OSTs are something that we usually don’t find in India. The most popular OSTs of the Pak dramas include Khuda Aur Mohabbat, Pheli Si Muhabbat, and Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha. Kaifi Khalil sang the Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha OST, which became popular in India also.

Availability

With the availability of Pakistani Dramas on YouTube, it become easier for Indian audiences to access Pakistani dramas. This has helped to increase the popularity of these shows in India. This has helped to increase the popularity of these shows in India. The viewers can now watch them on demand from the comfort of their homes.

Humanizing the other side

Watching Pakistani dramas can help Indian viewers to gain a better understanding of Pakistani culture and people. This will help to humanize the other side and break down some of the stereotypes and prejudices that exist between the two countries. This can lead to greater empathy and understanding between the people of India and Pakistan, despite the political tensions that exist between the two nations.

Realistic

Pakistani dramas are more realistic and believable also because they are not stretched for over years. The extension of daily soap in India is very irritating and the quality got affected to earn money from already popular shows.

For instance, wedding sequels took days to get wrapped up in most of the Indian shows which we don’t find in Pakistani Dramas. Most of our Indian Dramas focus on typical Saas-Bahu (Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law) Drama.

In the Pak shows, you will find shows on social issues, great storytelling, and Rom-Com dramas, and these dramas don’t have a dramatic background and continuous repeating of particular dialogues which we will find in our Indian shows most of the time.

Supporting Characters

The Pak dramas are very engaging and don’t glorify the protagonists only. These dramas have great supporting characters with great script for them and this is what makes these dramas more engaging.

Dramas

For instance, “ Suno Chanda“, a romantic Pakistani comedy-drama was very popular when it got aired during the month of Ramadan in 2018 and 2019.

The series revolves around the lives of two cousins, who are forced to get married due to family circumstances. The show follows their journey as they try to navigate their new relationship while dealing with their eccentric family members and their struggles.

The show was praised for its light-hearted humor, well-developed characters, and strong performances by its cast. The cast included Iqra Aziz, Farhan Saeed, Nadia Afghan, Samina Ahmad, and Farhan Ali Agha. It also tackled some serious issues such as mental health and family dynamics sensitively and thoughtfully.

We can say that our Indian daily soaps must improve the quality of content with interesting storylines. Indian producers should focus on social issues, the quality of the script, and the dialogues. And cinematography and avoid showing particular scenes from different angles with dhum ta na na background music.

The Indian T.V. industry should stop giving all the priorities to the protagonists and there is a high need to have great supporting characters. Because the efforts of all the actors are going to make a show successful, a protagonist alone can do that.

Overall, despite the political tensions between India and Pakistan, the popularity of Pakistani dramas in India is a testament to the power of art and culture to bridge divides and foster greater understanding between people from different backgrounds.
